About
Cape Cod Kidarondacks |
In
the spring of 2006, a small group of woodcrafters met under
the direction of Nor’East Woodworks, LLC in Orleans, MA and made
plans to build items for donation to a local charity. The
Holly Berry Bazaar, held every other year to benefit Cape
Cod Hospital, was raising money for the Cardiac Care Center.
Typically the woodcrafters contributed wooden toys, hand
turned pieces and small furniture. This year, in order to
add something different, Nor’East Woodworks, LLC suggested making
small, brightly colored Adirondack chairs for children; the
kids would enjoy sitting in them and the parents and
grandparents would enjoy giving them something reminiscent
of Cape Cod.
Nor’East Woodworks, LLC drew up plans, built a prototype and
painted it bright yellow. They called it a Cape Cod Kidarondack and planned to build ten. Within two weeks they
had orders for over twenty. By the time the bazaar took
place in November, the woodcrafters had built 50 chairs
and, through word of mouth, sold all but four, those four
being intentionally held aside for the event. The doors
opened to the Holly Berry Bazaar, and the four chairs were sold in a heartbeat. It
was, to say the least, very rewarding.
The Cape Cod community had embraced the Cape Cod
Kidarondacks with enthusiasm; a local lumber store donated
all the wood; a paint store donated gallons of red, blue,
yellow, green and pink paint. Volunteers worked tirelessly
cutting, sanding, assembling and painting the Cape Cod
Kidarondacks . They were a huge success,
and it was clear that their appeal extended far beyond Cape
Cod. To this day, we carry on the tradition of helping
Cape Cod Hospital by donating $2 for every chair sold.
